Procurement Associate
We're supporting an IPP on their search for a Procurement Associate to support end-to-end procurement for utility-scale BESS projects. This includes sourcing equipment and services, managing RFx processes, negotiating contracts, and ensuring on-time, on-budget delivery aligned with project schedules and commercial targets.
You'll collaborate closely with Engineering, Project Development, Construction (EPC), Legal, Finance, and Operations to secure critical-path components (e.g., battery packs, PCS/inverters, transformers, enclosures, fire suppression systems, BMS software/services) and balance-of-plant materials. This is a high-impact role in a fast-growing team.
Key Responsibilities
Sourcing & RFx Management
- Develop and execute RFIs/RFQs/RFPs for BESS equipment, EPC services, logistics, and site services.
- Build and maintain supplier panels; evaluate bids for technical compliance, commercial value, and delivery risk.
- Conduct total cost of ownership (TCO) analyses, including warranty terms, performance guarantees, spares, and life-cycle costs.
Contracting & Negotiation
- Support negotiation and drafting of MSAs, Purchase Agreements, and SOWs with Legal.
- Track key commercial terms (payment milestones, LDs, performance guarantees, liquidated damages, delivery schedules, Incoterms, warranty and O&M requirements).
- Assist in finalizing technical exhibits with Engineering and supplier QA/QC requirements.
Project Execution Support
- Align purchase timelines with project schedules (NTP, COD, interconnection milestones).
- Coordinate order placement, change orders, and delivery tracking; manage expediting and logistics.
- Resolve supplier issues and non-conformances; escalate risks and propose mitigations.
Supplier & Market Intelligence
- Maintain current knowledge of BESS supply markets.
- Monitor lead times, cost drivers (commodities, freight), and capacity constraints; provide inputs to category strategies.
- Conduct supplier performance reviews and scorecards; support supplier onboarding and qualification.
Process, Compliance & Analytics
- Ensure procurement compliance with company policies, ESG standards, and project financing requirements (including lender/Tax Equity conditions).
- Maintain accurate purchase orders, PRs, GRs, and documentation in ERP/procurement systems.
- Support budgeting and forecasting; track savings and cost avoidance; prepare weekly/monthly status reports.
Qualifications
- Experience: 2+ years in procurement or supply chain within renewable energy, with direct exposure to BESS sourcing (utility-scale preferred).
- Technical Familiarity: Understanding of BESS components (battery modules/racks, PCS/inverters, transformers, switchgear, EMS/BMS, thermal/fires suppression), factory/site acceptance testing concepts, and key certifications (UL9540/UL9540A).
- Commercial Acumen: Experience running RFx, analyzing bids, negotiating price/terms, and administering contracts/Purchase Orders.
- Tools: Proficiency with ERP or e-procurement systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, Coupa), Microsoft 365; strong Excel skills for cost modeling and scenario analysis.
- Soft Skills: Organized, detail-oriented, strong written/verbal communication, stakeholder management, and vendor relationship skills.
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Engineering, Business, or related field (or equivalent experience).
