We are working with a growing packaging manufacturing business in Bavaria that is looking to appoint a Procurement Manager with a clear and defined pathway to step into a Head of Procurement role in the near future.
This is a strategic hire, offering both immediate ownership and long-term leadership progression within a business investing in its procurement function.
The Role
As Procurement Manager, you will take ownership of key raw material categories (core to the packaging value chain) alongside selected indirect spend areas, driving both operational stability and strategic value creation.
You will work closely with senior leadership and play a central role in shaping the future procurement structure, processes, and supplier landscape.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead sourcing and category management for raw materials (e.g. polymers, resins, paper-based materials, additives)
- Manage selected indirect categories (e.g. logistics, MRO, services)
- Develop and implement category strategies aligned with business growth plans
- Drive cost optimisation, supplier consolidation, and value creation initiatives
- Lead negotiations and contract management with key suppliers across Europe
- Mitigate supply risk and ensure continuity in a volatile raw materials market
- Partner closely with production, operations, and commercial teams
- Support the evolution of procurement processes, governance, and best practice
- Act as a key contributor to the future leadership of the procurement function
Profile
- Proven experience in procurement within packaging, plastics, paper, or wider manufacturing
- Strong expertise in raw materials sourcing; exposure to indirect categories is a plus
- Strategic mindset with the ability to operate hands-on in a mid-sized environment
- Strong negotiation and supplier management capabilities
- Experience working in dynamic, cost-sensitive markets
- Ability to influence senior stakeholders and drive change
- Fluent in German and English
