Control System Engineer
Job Description
This role is responsible for supporting industrial control systems, including Distributed Control Systems (DCS), Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), and Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS). The primary focus is to deliver, maintain, and upgrade control systems that meet production requirements, ensure safety compliance, and maximize system performance. A key emphasis is on DeltaV DCS expertise, including lifecycle management, migration planning, and advanced configuration.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage all control systems within the assigned area, with a strong focus on DeltaV DCS.
- Oversee lifecycle status and perform periodic health checks of installed control systems.
- Develop and maintain long-term migration plans for control systems, including DeltaV upgrades.
- Track total cost of ownership for control systems, including failure monitoring, hardware installations, and software version optimization.
- Act as SIS Responsible Engineer, maintaining all required documentation for SIS systems.
- Provide expert remote support for control systems across multiple sites.
- Perform advanced control and graphic configuration, particularly on DeltaV DCS, beyond technician-level capabilities.
- Ensure compliance with corporate standards for all control systems (DCS, PLC, SIS).
- Maintain logic documentation and instrumentation drawings for production areas.
- Lead root cause failure analysis and implement corrective actions for control system issues.
- Develop and maintain manuals and best practices for all systems, emphasizing DeltaV DCS.
- Support capital projects requiring control system integration.
- Ensure preventive maintenance and mechanical integrity programs are implemented for DCS interlocks, alarm management, and SIS.
- Maintain up-to-date equipment files and drawings, including P&IDs and loop diagrams.
- Drive standardization and quality of configurations across all control systems.
- Coordinate technology and best practice sharing between vendors and production teams.
Preferred Experience
- Extensive hands-on experience with DeltaV DCS, including configuration, troubleshooting, and lifecycle management.
- Familiarity with communication protocols such as Profibus, Fieldbus, OPC, and wireless systems.
- Knowledge of advanced process control strategies and alarm management.
- Strong understanding of automation security programs and obsolescence planning.
