Controls Engineer
We're looking for a Controls Engineer to join a high-performing technical team supporting capital projects in a food manufacturing environment. This role focuses on automation, packaging systems, and process controls, with responsibility for projects up to $2MM.
About the Role:
As a Controls Engineer, you'll design and implement control systems that improve production efficiency, safety, and reliability. You'll work closely with internal departments and external partners to develop solutions that meet operational goals and technical standards.
Responsibilities Include:
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams (Operations, Finance, Safety, Quality) to define project requirements and deliverables.
- Leading the development of project documentation including system layouts, infrastructure needs, and performance specifications.
- Designing and programming PLCs, troubleshooting control logic, and supporting automation systems.
- Managing virtual server environments and overseeing network infrastructure related to controls and data systems.
- Independently managing small-scale engineering projects from concept through execution.
- Conducting plant trials and analyzing results to validate new technologies and system improvements.
- Preparing technical reports and presenting findings to stakeholders.
- Staying current with industry trends in packaging automation and control technologies.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Robotics, or Packaging Engineering (with a focus on automation or controls).
- 5+ years of experience in food manufacturing or industrial automation (internships/co-ops are a plus).
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office tools.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing systems, control equipment, and packaging operations.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Willingness to travel up to 25% for project-related activities.
