Location: Milwaukee, WI

Schedule: M-F 6am start

Salary: $140,000-160,000 base + annual bonus

A leading food distribution client is looking for a Director of Transportation to join their Wisconsin site. The Director of Transportation will manage the site Transportation department's safety procedures, customer service and cost effectiveness. The ideal candidate is a strong leader with proven experience driving efficiency through strategic decisions and leading high performing teams. They will oversee daily outbound shipments to customers and distribution centers across the organization prioritizing safety, accuracy and speed.

The Director of Transportation will be responsible for…

  • Drive safety, service and cost efficiency targets across the Transportation team.
  • Oversee Transportation department operations and ensure achievement of department objectives.
  • Develop short and long term strategic plans and direct stakeholders to action them.
  • Prioritize safety for all employees, customers and others by creating safety procedures, continuous improvement of processes, strong training and promote a safety-first culture.
  • Manage 4 Transportation Managers and 1 Fleet/Facilities Maintenance Manager, as well as 4 mechanics and 2 facilities associates. Develop direct reports through 1 on 1 coaching and training.
  • Oversee and develop drivers by working closely with managers to identify gaps and create plans for improvement.
  • Drive productivity and accuracy across production and delivery timing efficiencies.
  • Oversee union and non union staff.

The ideal Director of Transportation should have…

  • Strong experience developing leaders across Transportation and Logistics teams.
  • 7+ years of experience in transportation management.
  • Experience overseeing union staff preferred.
  • Experience in food distribution a plus.
  • Strong understanding of DOT, OSHA, inventory control and other regulatory standards.
  • Proven experience upholding strong safety procedures.
