Packaging Engineer
DSJ Global is currently partnered with a food manufacturer who is looking to add a seasoned Packaging Engineer to lead and support packaging initiatives across a variety of projects. This role focuses on optimizing packaging systems, improving sustainability, and enhancing supplier collaboration. The ideal candidate will bring deep technical expertise and a strategic mindset to drive innovation and efficiency.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Lead packaging development and improvement projects, focusing on cost reduction, environmental impact, and supplier performance.
- Conduct technical assessments of packaging suppliers and identify opportunities for improvement or risk mitigation.
- Provide hands-on support to production teams and external partners to resolve packaging-related issues and ensure consistent quality.
- Ensure packaging materials and designs meet all applicable regulatory and consumer standards.
- Develop comprehensive packaging documentation, including specifications, drawings, and performance criteria.
- Oversee testing and validation processes for new packaging solutions, including equipment compatibility and production trials.
- Collaborate with engineering and operations teams to align packaging designs with manufacturing capabilities.
- Partner with suppliers to explore new materials and technologies that enhance product performance and reduce costs.
- Lead cross-functional teams to evaluate and implement innovative packaging solutions.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Packaging Engineering, Materials Science, or a related discipline.
- 5-10 years of experience in packaging engineering, preferably within consumer products or food manufacturing environments.
- Strong knowledge of packaging materials such as paperboard, corrugated, flexible films, and rigid containers.
- Experience with automated packaging systems including vertical and horizontal form-fill-seal machines and flow wrappers.
- Familiarity with regulatory standards for packaging, especially those related to food safety and labeling.
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects and lead cross-functional teams.
- Professional certifications in packaging or process improvement (e.g., CPP, Lean Six Sigma) are advantageous.
