Position Summary

The Process Control Engineer will play a key role in designing and commissioning a new facility focused on metal powder production and magnet manufacturing. This position involves hands-on work with powder processing techniques such as hydrogen decrepitation, jet milling, classification, blending, and quality control. The engineer will collaborate across departments to ensure process efficiency, product quality, and safety compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with production teams across upstream and downstream operations to meet product specifications.
  • Support equipment specification, design reviews, and commissioning activities.
  • Participate in safety assessments, regulatory compliance, and risk analysis (e.g., HAZOP).
  • Develop and optimize processes for powder handling and processing equipment.
  • Assist in scaling up new processes from development to industrial implementation.
  • Provide technical training and support to operations personnel.
  • Define and monitor process control plans to meet customer requirements.
  • Troubleshoot equipment and quality issues, and implement corrective actions.
  • Maintain documentation related to intellectual property and support patent filings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Metallurgy, Materials Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or related field.
  • 3-5 years of experience in industrial-scale metal powder processing.
  • Strong understanding of powder processing fundamentals including particle size distribution, flowability, and agglomeration.
  • Experience with statistical process control (SPC) and quality systems.
  • Proficiency in problem-solving methodologies (e.g., FMEA, 8D, A3).
  • Strong communication skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Valid driver's license required for on-site vehicle use.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in powder manufacturing or processing.
  • Expertise in hydrogen furnace operation and powder pulverization.
  • Familiarity with process safety in powder handling environments.
  • Experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP).
  • Skills in programming and process control tools (e.g., PLCs, P&ID, MATLAB, Python, AutoCAD/SolidWorks, MiniTab).
  • Ability to lead cross-functional problem-solving and drive consensus.
