The Opportunity
A leading international freight forwarding company is seeking an experienced Air Freight Operations Manager to join its growing team in Milan.
This role will be responsible for leading and developing a team of air freight professionals across both import and export operations, ensuring exceptional service delivery, operational efficiency, and customer satisfaction. Working within a fast-paced international environment, you will play a key role in supporting business growth while maintaining high levels of operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the day-to-day Air Freight Import and Export operations
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of air freight operators
- Ensure shipments are handled efficiently, compliantly, and profitably
- Monitor operational KPIs, service levels, and performance metrics
- Build and maintain strong relationships with airlines, handling agents, and customers
- Oversee capacity management, flight planning, and routing decisions
- Support the onboarding and implementation of new customers
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives across operational processes
- Ensure compliance with customs regulations, security requirements, and company procedures
- Collaborate closely with commercial teams to support customer growth and retention
Requirements
- Proven experience within Air Freight Operations in a freight forwarding environment
- Strong knowledge of both import and export processes
- Previous supervisory or management experience
- Excellent understanding of airline operations, routing, pricing, and capacity management
- Strong customer-facing and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Fluent Italian and professional English
