Converting Superintendent
Position Summary
DSJ Global is partnered with a leading paper and tissue manufacturing organization seeking a Converting Superintendent to lead day-to-day operations within a high-speed converting and finishing environment. This individual will oversee production leadership teams, drive operational excellence, ensure safety and quality compliance, and support continuous improvement initiatives while meeting production and cost objectives.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline preferred.
- 10+ years of leadership experience within manufacturing operations.
- Experience leading converting, finishing, packaging, printing, tissue, paper, or similar production operations.
- Strong background in continuous improvement and operational excellence initiatives.
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams, hold employees accountable, and drive performance results.
- Experience managing production performance, labor utilization, and manufacturing KPIs.
Preferred Background
- Tissue, paper, converting, packaging, printing, pulp, or other high-speed manufacturing environments.
- Experience leading large production teams through front-line supervisors.
- Strong understanding of safety, quality, production, and maintenance best practices.
- Experience working closely with maintenance teams to improve reliability and equipment performance.
- Proven track record of driving productivity, efficiency, and cost improvements.
Leadership & Team Development
- Lead and develop front-line supervisors and production personnel.
- Foster a culture of accountability, engagement, and continuous improvement.
- Coach employees and leadership teams to achieve operational goals.
- Address performance concerns while building a positive and productive work environment.
- Support succession planning and employee development initiatives.
Production Operations
- Oversee daily converting and finishing operations to ensure production targets are achieved.
- Monitor safety, quality, throughput, waste, downtime, and labor performance metrics.
- Review production schedules and adjust priorities to maximize efficiency and customer service.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, operating procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain accurate production and operational records.
Continuous Improvement
- Identify root causes of operational challenges and implement sustainable solutions.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on productivity, quality, and cost reduction.
- Establish and improve standard operating procedures and best practices.
- Support operational excellence programs and performance improvement efforts.
- Lead change management initiatives throughout the operation.
Maintenance & Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with maintenance teams to improve equipment reliability and uptime.
- Support operator training and process optimization initiatives.
- Collaborate with quality, maintenance, engineering, and leadership teams to achieve site objectives.
- Provide input on equipment upgrades, capital projects, and operational improvements.
Budgeting & Business Performance
- Manage departmental costs and support budget adherence.
- Monitor operating performance and identify areas for cost savings.
- Ensure departmental goals align with overall site objectives and business strategy.
- Drive performance improvements that positively impact productivity and profitability.
