Director of Purchasing

A growing manufacturing and remanufacturing organization is seeking a strategic and experienced Director of Purchasing to lead procurement operations across its aftermarket sector. This role is responsible for developing and executing purchasing strategies that ensure cost-effective, sustainable, and reliable sourcing of materials, components, and services. The Director will oversee supplier selection, contract negotiations, and strategic sourcing initiatives while driving operational excellence, supplier diversity, and compliance with trade requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Purchasing Strategy & Leadership

  • Develop and implement purchasing strategies aligned with corporate goals.
  • Lead and mentor a team of purchasing managers and buyers across multiple business units.
  • Establish policies, procedures, and KPIs to drive efficiency and accountability.

Supplier & Vendor Management

  • Build strategic relationships with domestic and international suppliers.
  • Negotiate supplier agreements and payment terms to optimize value and reduce risk.
  • Promote supplier innovation, quality, and sustainability.

Cost Optimization & Risk Management

  • Identify cost-saving opportunities through strategic sourcing and value engineering.
  • Monitor global market conditions, tariffs, and commodity trends.
  • Conduct supplier risk assessments and develop contingency plans.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Align purchasing strategies with Supply Chain, Operations, Finance, Product Management, and Engineering.
  • Improve material availability, lead times, and inventory health.
  • Ensure budget alignment and savings realization.

Systems & Process Improvement

  • Utilize ERP systems (Oracle preferred) to enhance purchasing workflows and reporting.
  • Streamline supplier onboarding and compliance processes.
  • Implement digital dashboards for performance tracking.

Qualifications

  • Experience sourcing for hydraulics within the automotive industry
  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Business Administration, Engineering, or related field (Master's preferred).
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in purchasing, sourcing, or procurement leadership roles.
  • Proven track record of delivering cost savings and improving supplier performance.
  • Strong knowledge of global supply chain, trade compliance, and procurement best practices.
  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams and influence executive leadership.
  • Proficiency in ERP systems (Oracle preferred), Microsoft Office Suite, and analytics tools.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and strategic planning skills.
