Safety Coordinator (Safety Specialist)
Overview
The Safety Coordinator is responsible for leading and managing occupational health and safety programs at an assigned facility while supporting broader safety initiatives across multiple locations in the U.S. and Canada. This role serves as the primary on-site safety authority, ensuring regulatory compliance, promoting a proactive safety culture, and driving continuous improvement in safety performance.
Key Responsibilities
Safety Leadership & Compliance
- Serve as the primary point of contact for all safety-related matters at the facility
- Ensure compliance with OSHA and applicable federal, state, and Canadian safety regulations
- Conduct regular safety inspections to identify and mitigate workplace hazards
- Lead implementation and continuous improvement of safety programs (e.g., LOTO, PPE, fall protection, hazard communication)
Program Management & Continuous Improvement
- Develop, implement, and maintain safety policies and procedures
- Analyze safety data to identify trends and improvement opportunities
- Support internal audits, regulatory inspections, and corrective action plans
- Lead and participate in incident, injury, and near-miss investigations, including root cause analysis
Training & Culture Development
- Deliver safety training and onboarding programs for employees
- Drive employee engagement and accountability in safety practices
- Promote a positive, proactive safety culture across teams
- Partner with operations, maintenance, and quality teams to integrate safety into daily work
Operational & Field Support
- Provide day-to-day safety oversight for facility operations
- Support environmental and industrial hygiene monitoring (e.g., air quality, noise, heat stress)
- Develop and maintain emergency preparedness and response plans
- Travel up to 50% (approximately two weeks per month) to support audits, mentoring, and site visits
Administrative & Reporting
- Maintain safety documentation, reports, and compliance records
- Track and report KPIs and safety performance metrics
- Support cross-functional safety initiatives and corporate programs
Qualifications
Required
- High school diploma (Associate's degree or equivalent experience preferred)
- 3+ years of experience in a safety-related role
- Strong knowledge of workplace safety practices and hazard identification
- Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
Preferred
- OSHA 30-Hour Construction certification
- Experience in industrial, manufacturing, construction, or warehouse environments
- Experience improving safety programs and processes

- Ability to perform physical tasks such as climbing, crouching, or reaching as needed

- Reports to: Director of Safety
- Works closely with: Plant Manager and cross-functional teams
