Control Systems Specialist Supervisor
Position Summary
The Control System Supervisor provides supervision and direction for a team of Control System Specialists and offers hands-on support for commissioning, maintenance, and troubleshooting of control, instrumentation, and electrical systems across power generation facilities. This role is responsible for developing and executing a work plan aimed at continuously improving the department's capability to support plant operations with instrumentation, control, and network systems. Additionally, the position identifies training, cross-training, and development needs for Control System Specialists.
Essential Functions
Supervise and direct Control Systems Specialists, assigning projects and responsibilities based on operational priorities.
Coordinate field activities related to plant outages, construction, commissioning, and startups.
Ensure Control Systems Specialists are properly trained in instrumentation, controls, PLC logic, HMI/SCADA, network communications, and cybersecurity.
Troubleshoot and repair plant control, electrical, and instrumentation systems.
Support installation and testing activities during pre-startup and commissioning phases.
Develop or modify PLC logic based on control philosophies and documentation.
Develop or modify HMI programs based on design documentation.
Build and configure servers, computers, and hardware for use on control networks, including documentation of processes.
Collaborate with engineering and plant operations teams to improve control systems, processes, and data acquisition.
Work with cybersecurity professionals to assess and improve control network security.
Implement control solutions for process improvements and new installations.
Analyze control system inefficiencies and propose improvements.
Maintain and update facility documentation and control system drawings.
Provide mentorship and technical support to junior Control System Specialists.
Enforce and adhere to all applicable safety procedures and regulations.
Must hold a valid driver's license and be capable of traveling extensively (up to 30%) to remote power plant sites.

Education, Experience, and Skills Required
High school diploma or GED, with professional training and/or college coursework in a relevant field.
Minimum of seven (7) years of experience in power generation or similar process industries, with hands-on exposure to operations, maintenance, or project implementation.
At least three (3) years of supervisory experience leading technical teams.
Minimum of four (4) years of experience with PLC programming (Allen Bradley preferred).
At least three (3) years of experience with HMI/SCADA programming (Citect preferred).
Strong ability to interpret process and electrical documentation, including P&IDs, control philosophies, single-line diagrams, and schematics.
Experience with installation and calibration of instrumentation and electrical devices.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and general computer literacy.
Ability to work independently, maintain confidentiality, and exhibit strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
Must respond effectively under pressure, including during emergency situations.
Strong verbal and written communication skills in English are required.
Physical Requirements
Ability to work in operational plant environments with exposure to noise, vibration, and varying temperatures.
Must be able to use required personal protective equipment.
Ability to climb ladders, work at heights, and in confined spaces.
Must be capable of lifting 20-50 pounds and handling physically demanding tasks.
Ability to sit, stand, bend, kneel, and use repetitive motions for extended periods.
Ability to safely drive and operate light 4WD vehicles on various terrains.
