Role
The Electrical Controls Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, programming, and maintaining automated control systems used in manufacturing and production environments. This role focuses on enhancing efficiency, reliability, and safety through the application of PLCs, HMIs, machine vision, robotics, and industrial control networks. The position is highly hands-on and supports the transition of manufacturing systems from development through scale-up and commercialization.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, build, and troubleshoot automated manufacturing equipment and control systems.
- Develop and maintain custom automation solutions to support current and future manufacturing operations.
- Lead electrical and controls projects, including planning, execution, and coordination with cross-functional stakeholders.
- Design control architectures, electrical circuits, power distribution systems (high and low voltage), and electrical panels.
- Create and maintain electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, layouts, and bills of materials.
- Develop, program, and optimize machine vision inspection systems, including cameras, lighting, optics, and inspection logic.
- Diagnose and resolve electrical, controls, and automation issues, contributing to root cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, quality, throughput, and operational efficiency.
- Draft and maintain equipment maintenance procedures and support quality system documentation.
- Define equipment requirements and collaborate with external vendors on system design, proposals, and execution.
- Work closely with engineering, manufacturing, quality, and operations teams to support product development and production needs.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- 3-5 years of experience supporting automated systems in high-volume manufacturing environments such as medical devices, pharmaceuticals, or similar regulated industries.
- Experience using CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks or equivalent) for electrical schematics and drawings.
- Familiarity with machine vision systems, motion control, and PLC/HMI platforms (Rockwell/Allen-Bradley or comparable).
- Programming experience with PLCs and/or general-purpose languages (e.g., Studio 5000, Python, C++, or similar).
- Strong organizational, time management, and project execution skills.
- Proven ability to learn new technologies, solve complex technical problems, work independently, and collaborate across disciplines.
- Self-motivated mindset with an interest in working in a fast-paced, innovation-driven environment focused on improving global health.
