Electrical Engineer
Electrical Engineer - Gelderland, Netherlands
A leading global food production company is seeking a skilled Electrical Engineer to join its high‑output manufacturing site in Nijmegen, Netherlands. This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys hands‑on project ownership, long-term infrastructure planning, and solving complex power‑supply challenges.
About the Role
As an Electrical Engineer, you will play a key role in ensuring the site's electrical infrastructure is future‑ready, safe, and capable of supporting continuous growth. You will take full responsibility for projects from scoping to installation, working closely with internal teams, external suppliers, and grid stakeholders.
You will also support strategic planning to ensure the site has sufficient power capacity in the years ahead, particularly as grid limitations currently restrict additional power intake until 2032.
Key Responsibilities
Project & Infrastructure Management
- Lead end‑to‑end electrical projects (A-Z), including major sustainability initiatives such as solar panel installations.
- Oversee replacement and modernisation of ageing distribution boards (approx. 35+ years old).
- Update and optimise the site's maintenance processes for electrical systems.
- Plan future infrastructure needs, ensuring the site remains competitive and able to expand.
Power Strategy & Grid Capacity
- Analyse how the regional electrical grid works and how to ensure long‑term power availability.
- Work on strategies to secure sufficient site power, despite current grid capacity limitations.
- Collaborate with grid operators and suppliers to understand constraints and future supply timelines.
Operational Engagement
- Be present on-site for the majority of the week to monitor equipment, support production teams, and manage projects.
- Engage with suppliers, contractors, and shop‑floor personnel to ensure smooth project execution.
Requirements
- Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- Experience with industrial electrical systems, power distribution, and project management.
- Understanding of electrical grids, capacity planning, and sustainable energy systems (e.g., solar).
- Dutch language skills: Not required to be fluent, but able to communicate with vendors and colleagues-or willing to actively improve.
- Strong problem‑solving ability, especially in environments with power or capacity constraints.
- Comfort working primarily on-site, with flexibility for limited remote work when feasible.
What We Offer
- Opportunity to shape long-term energy planning for a major production facility.
- The chance to lead impactful technical projects from concept to completion.
- A collaborative, supportive environment that values innovation and continuous improvement.
