Role Overview
As the Air Freight Import Manager, you will lead and manage the import operations for air freight within the country or region. This is a critical leadership role that ensures high performance in service delivery, operational compliance, team management, and customer satisfaction. You will drive continuous improvement, manage vendor relationships, and support business growth in air import.
Key Responsibilities
Operations Management
Oversee day-to-day import operations for air freight, ensuring timely and accurate processing of shipments.
Ensure compliance with international trade regulations, customs requirements, and internal policies.
Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to ensure efficiency, cost control, and customer satisfaction.
Team Leadership
Lead and develop the air import team, including supervisors and operations specialists.
Conduct regular team training, performance reviews, and skill development plans.
Foster a culture of accountability, service excellence, and continuous improvement.
Customer & Carrier Management
Act as the escalation point for key accounts, resolving issues proactively and professionally.
Collaborate with sales and account management to support new business opportunities.
Manage relationships with airlines, ground handlers, and customs brokers.
Process Improvement
Identify and implement process improvements, automation, and digital tools to optimise operations.
Ensure data integrity, accurate documentation, and system compliance (e.g., TMS, cargo systems).
Compliance & Risk Management
Ensure adherence to all customs and regulatory frameworks, including IATA, EU, and local requirements.
Manage risk and security protocols related to imports (e.g., screening, documentation accuracy, cargo safety).
Requirements
5+ years of experience in air freight, with a strong focus on import operations.
Proven leadership experience in freight forwarding or logistics environment.
In-depth knowledge of global air cargo processes, customs procedures, and compliance standards.
Familiarity with key systems such as Cargowise, SAP TM, or other freight management software.
Strong communication, problem-solving, and organisational skills.
Fluent in English; additional languages are a plus.
IATA, FIATA, or customs certifications are advantageous.
