Global Category Manager IT (M/F/D)

Our client, a leading player in the manufacturing sector, is seeking an experienced Global Category Manager IT to oversee and optimise the procurement of IT goods and services across the organisation. This is a strategic, hands-on role focused on delivering value through effective sourcing, supplier management, and contract negotiation, without direct team management responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute IT procurement strategies aligned with business objectives and technology road maps.
  • Manage end-to-end procurement processes for hardware, software, cloud services, telecoms, and IT consultancy.
  • Lead negotiations with vendors to secure optimal commercial terms, ensuring compliance with internal policies and external regulations.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers and internal stakeholders across IT and finance.
  • Monitor market trends and emerging technologies to inform sourcing decisions and identify cost-saving opportunities.
  • Ensure contracts are fit for purpose, risk-managed, and deliver value throughout their lifecycle.
  • Collaborate with legal and compliance teams to ensure procurement activities meet regulatory and contractual standards.
  • Maintain accurate records of procurement activities, spend analysis, and supplier performance metrics.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience in IT procurement within a complex, multinational environment-ideally within the manufacturing or industrial sector.
  • Strong understanding of IT categories including infrastructure, SaaS, cybersecurity, and digital transformation services.
  • Excellent negotiation and stakeholder management skills.
  • Familiarity with procurement systems (e.g., SAP Ariba, Coupa) and contract management tools.
  • Fluent in English; German language skills are highly desirable.
  • Degree in Business, Supply Chain, IT, or a related field; professional procurement certification (e.g., CIPS) is a plus.
