Indirect Sourcing Category Manager - Logistics
Position Summary:
Our client is seeking a strategic and analytical Indirect Sourcing Category Manager - Logistics Services to lead procurement efforts across transportation, warehousing, freight, and related logistics services. This role will be responsible for developing category strategies, optimizing supplier performance, and driving cost savings and service improvements across the logistics network of a fast-paced consumer goods organization.
Location: FULLY ON-SITE IN LEXINGTON, KY
Key Responsibilities:
Category Strategy & Execution:
Develop and implement sourcing strategies for logistics services including transportation (inbound/outbound), warehousing, freight forwarding, last-mile delivery, and reverse logistics.Supplier Management:
Lead supplier selection, contract negotiations, and performance management to ensure service quality, cost efficiency, and innovation.Cross-Functional Collaboration:
Partner with Supply Chain, Operations, Finance, and Legal teams to align sourcing strategies with business needs and operational goals.Cost Optimization:
Identify and execute cost-saving initiatives through competitive sourcing, demand management, and process improvements.Contract & Risk Management:
Negotiate and manage logistics contracts, ensuring compliance with service level agreements (SLAs), risk mitigation, and regulatory requirements.Market Intelligence:
Monitor logistics market trends, carrier capacity, and pricing dynamics to inform sourcing decisions and maintain competitive advantage.KPI Development & Reporting:
Establish and track key performance indicators (KPIs) such as cost per shipment, on-time delivery, carrier performance, and warehouse utilization.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Business, Logistics, or related field (MBA or CPSM preferred)
- 5+ years of experience in indirect procurement or logistics sourcing, preferably in a consumer goods or manufacturing environment
- Strong negotiation, analytical, and project management skills
- Experience with logistics contracts, freight rate structures, and service level agreements
- Proficiency in sourcing tools (e.g., Ariba, Coupa) and ERP systems (e.g., SAP)
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement abilities
