A large, modern industrial manufacturing operation in East Tennessee is seeking a Maintenance Superintendent to support one of its key production departments. This facility is a high‑volume metal‑processing operation equipped with advanced mechanical systems, high‑temperature processes, and complex automation. The site has been in continuous operation for nearly a century and continues to expand while maintaining a strong focus on safety, reliability, and continuous improvement.
The Maintenance Superintendent will be responsible for:
- Leading all planned and unplanned maintenance activities for a major production area.
- Ensuring execution of department EHS plans and enforcing safe work practices.
- Promoting Human Performance (HP) principles across maintenance teams.
- Ensuring compliance with Federal, State, Local building codes, and internal standards.
- Coaching, mentoring, and developing maintenance supervisors, planners, and technicians.
- Supporting performance management processes and contributing to long‑term departmental goals.
- Deploying reliability initiatives and operational excellence programs across the department.
- Identifying, implementing, and documenting maintenance best practices.
- Benchmarking with other facilities and industry leaders to incorporate new methods and improvements.
- Developing and executing strategic maintenance plans to increase equipment availability and reduce downtime.
- Improving maintenance efficiencies, labor utilization, and material cost control.
- Managing the department's annual budget, monthly forecasts, and cost‑reduction initiatives.
- Ensuring all financial targets are met while supporting production and reliability needs.
- Partnering with Procurement to maintain contracts, vendor agreements, and service support.
- Overseeing daily maintenance execution to support production, quality, and safety goals.
- Ensuring accurate maintenance documentation, workflow planning, scheduling, and reporting.
The Maintenance Superintendent will have the following qualifications:
Required:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
- 5+ years of maintenance experience in a heavy manufacturing environment.
- Prior supervisory or leadership experience.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S.
Preferred:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or a technical field.
- Experience leading multidisciplinary maintenance teams.
- Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and decision‑making abilities.
- Knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems.
- Experience with EHS programs, lean manufacturing, and reliability systems.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and CMMS tools.
- 2+ years of direct management or supervisory experience.
- Experience working in a union environment.
