Manager, New Construction
An established maritime organization in Cleveland, Ohio is seeking a skilled and experienced Manager, New Construction to lead the full lifecycle of vessel construction projects. This role oversees all aspects of new vessel builds, ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently, on time, within budget, and to exceptional quality standards.
This is a high-impact leadership position that shapes construction methodology, drives process excellence, and guides multidisciplinary teams through complex, large-scale shipbuilding programs.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage all new construction contracts, ensuring safe and successful execution from start to delivery.
- Establish effective construction processes, methods, and procedures to optimize cost and quality outcomes.
- Identify and resolve issues proactively throughout construction phases using seasoned industry expertise.
- Oversee all project personnel and mitigate risks across fabrication, installation, outfitting, commissioning, and sea trials.
- Manage schedules, budgets, labor forecasts, vendor performance, purchasing, and project documentation.
- Ensure strict adherence to specifications, client requirements, and classification standards such as ABS, Lloyds, DNV, and BV.
- Support additional fabrication, shipyard, and engineering-related assignments as required.
- Travel occasionally (less than 20%) for project needs; primary responsibilities are shoreside.
Requirements:
- 10+ years of experience in the shipbuilding or ship repair industry.
- 5+ years of supervisory or managerial experience.
- Strong background in shipyard/steel construction.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to manage multiple competing priorities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and readiness to learn internal job cost and purchasing software.
- Working knowledge of ABS Rules and experience collaborating with major classification societies.
