Mechanical Engineer II

Mechanical Engineer II needed to join a major established shipbuilding company based in Vancouver, Washington. This company is a value driven, diversified industrial business excelling at specialized shipbuilding and ship repair, supporting both commercial customers and our national defense.

Position Overview

The Mechanical Engineer II participates in the design and detail engineering efforts to support the construction of aluminum and steel vessels.

What you will do

  • Provide engineering and technical direction on assigned projects in accordance with the project scope, to the Project Manager and all supporting internal departments, customers, suppliers, and subcontracted design agents.
  • Perform basic calculations required for system and component design/outfitting.
  • Create or review regulatory and class level drawings.
  • Design or review vessel mechanical systems which meet requirements set forth in the vessel specification, creating models, drawings, and detailed bills of materials.
  • Perform and review 3D modeling creation.
  • Create lofted and extruded plate parts for CNC cutting and forming.
  • Provide liaison between Engineering, Project Management, and production operations to resolve any issues, improvements and changes necessary for deliverables.
  • Develop, manage, and maintain Ship Constructor and SolidWorks models.
  • Responsible for producing and reviewing documentation for customers including: RFI, Submittals, Engineering Change Requests, Nonconformance Documentation (NCR).

Requirements:

  • Strong computer skills and experience with AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Rhino, Ship Constructor and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Good working knowledge of design spiral, vessel arrangements, structural, electrical, mechanical and outfit details.
  • Knowledge of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) concepts and systems.
  • Knowledge of Product Data Management (PDM) concepts and systems.
  • BA in an Engineering discipline or equivalent.
  • 5 years of prior marine experience, experience in vessel design and construction.
  • Experience with CFR, Classing Society rules, ABYC, IEEE, and military contracts.
  • Experience working with steel or aluminum components is preferred
