Metals Purchasing Manager

A dynamic and proactive Purchasing Manager is sought to lead and enhance procurement operations. This role is essential in securing high-quality materials and services at optimal value while fostering strong supplier relationships. The successful candidate will work closely with both internal teams and external vendors to streamline processes and support strategic business objectives.

As an individual contributor, this position will be responsible for developing and executing procurement strategies aligned with corporate goals, particularly in the metals sector.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to all safety policies and procedures, ensuring a safe working environment for all stakeholders.
  • Develop and manage short- and long-term procurement strategies for metals, including sourcing within secondary scrap markets.
  • Ensure material availability through effective logistics coordination.
  • Assess and mitigate risks related to metal market fluctuations.
  • Negotiate and manage supplier and vendor contracts.
  • Oversee purchasing, logistics, inventory, and material disposal in line with company policies and market trends.
  • Establish and maintain a supplier and vendor approval system.
  • Implement cost control measures.
  • Ensure timely completion of daily, monthly, and annual reports and forecasts.
  • Provide strong leadership and drive process improvement initiatives.
  • Develop and enforce procurement policies and guidelines.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance and maintain accurate records.
  • Foster a positive and collaborative work environment.
  • Coordinate with other departments to promote teamwork.
  • Mentor and train the purchasing team.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or a minimum of 5 years of experience in specialty alloys, metals, or a related industry; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong background in the metals or specialty alloys industry.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to engage across all organizational levels.
  • Proven supervisory and leadership experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

Preferred Experience:

  • At least 5 years of experience in red metal or base metals procurement.
  • Familiarity with hedging principles.
