Operations Manager
Overview: We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Operations Manager to lead our operational team in Rotterdam. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in logistics, customs, and ocean freight, with a focus on Far East import origin logistics from Bangladesh and China. This role involves managing agent relations across Slovenia, Romania, Poland, and Spain, with approximately 20% travel required.
Key Responsibilities:
- Team Leadership: Lead and manage a team of 5 direct reports, providing guidance, support, and development opportunities. Foster a culture of leading by example, encouraging team members to step up and take initiative.
- Agent Relations: Oversee agent relations for Pepco in Slovenia, Romania, Poland, and Spain. Ensure effective communication and coordination with agents.
- Operational Contact Point: Serve as the primary operational contact for customers, predominantly situated in Poland. Handle carrier relations and haulage.
- Customs Coordination: Act as the main contact for customs agencies. Possess in-depth knowledge of customs procedures and regulations.
- Logistics Management: Manage ocean freight operations and Far East import logistics from Bangladesh and China. Ensure smooth delivery from port to warehouse, with a strong emphasis on road freight.
- Customer Relations: Coordinate with customers' brokers to ensure customs processes are completed efficiently. Develop strategies to enhance coordination and potentially take on customs execution in the future.
- Escalation Function: Monitor operations and provide an escalation function when necessary. Ensure timely resolution of issues and maintain high standards of service.
- TMS Development: Collaborate with the team to develop a Transportation Management System (TMS) to streamline operations.
- KPI Management: Follow up on key performance indicators (KPIs) and ensure targets are met. Maintain a sense of urgency in managing operations.
- Budget Management: Work within the allocated budget, making informed decisions to optimize operational efficiency.
Requirements:
- Experience: Proven management experience in logistics and operations. Prior experience in handling customs and ocean freight is essential.
- Skills: Strong leadership skills with the ability to lead by example. Excellent communication and coordination skills. Thick skin and a tough customer mindset.
- Languages: Fluent in English (mandatory). Proficiency in Polish or Romanian is a plus. Dutch language skills are highly desirable.
- Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of import roles, customs procedures, and road freight operations. Familiarity with container delivery from port to warehouse.
- Travel: Willingness to travel approximately 20% of the time.

- Payroll: This position is payroll-based.
- Hybrid Work: One day remote work and four days in the office.
