Role Overview

DSJ Global is currently partnered with a global packaging organization who is looking to add on a Plant Engineer to their team outside of the Columbia, SC area. The Plant Engineer is responsible for executing mechanical, electrical, and process-related solutions that improve manufacturing performance and resolve operational issues. This role leads engineering projects that enhance safety, quality, reliability, and production efficiency.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage capital projects from conceptualization through completion
  • Analyze process data (temperature, pressure, flow rates) to improve performance
  • Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and quality standards (e.g., OSHA, EPA)
  • Collaborate with production, maintenance, and quality teams
  • Lead or support continuous improvement initiatives (Lean, Six Sigma)
  • Develop and update standard operating procedures (SOPs)
  • Support plant start-ups, shutdowns, and equipment commissioning
  • Conduct root cause analysis for production failures or downtime
  • Evaluate raw materials and product quality to maintain consistency
  • Reviewing production metrics and KPIs
  • Lead safety initiatives, 5S deployments, and machine modifications
  • Identify machinery malfunctions and reliability concerns; lead or coordinate corrective projects
  • Support OEE improvements through machine and process design enhancements
  • Perform additional related tasks as assigned by supervisor

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering
  • 2-8 years of experience in a related manufacturing environment (e.g., plastics, converting, or similar industries preferred)
  • Strong knowledge of machine design and mechanical systems
  • Familiarity with mechanical building codes and OSHA standards
  • Knowledge of industrial equipment (reactors, distillation, pumps, heat exchangers)
  • Must be organized and able to handle multiple projects, and possess an understanding of the responsibilities of an in-house marketing department and how multiple business units work together to present a single, unified look and message
  • Experience working in a continuous improvement environment
