Overview

An exciting opportunity awaits a seasoned engineering professional to lead impactful capital projects at a dynamic coffee production facility in Norton Shores, MI. This role is ideal for a strategic thinker and hands-on executor who thrives in fast-paced environments and is passionate about driving innovation in food and beverage manufacturing.

The Principal Capital Projects Engineer will oversee medium to large-scale initiatives, including new product launches, equipment upgrades, process enhancements, and infrastructure improvements. While this position holds a senior-level title comparable to a Director of Project Engineering, it is an individual contributor role with no direct reports-perfect for someone who enjoys leading complex projects without the administrative overhead.


Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with senior leadership and stakeholders to define project scopes and objectives.
  • Develop detailed work breakdown structures, capital expenditure requests, and manage budgets and forecasts.
  • Lead the execution of comprehensive project plans, ensuring timely and successful delivery.
  • Source and manage internal and external resources, including consultants and vendors.
  • Establish performance metrics and evaluation criteria for project success.
  • Implement effective change management practices and maintain thorough documentation.
  • Monitor project progress, adjusting plans to meet performance targets and baseline expectations.
  • Provide regular updates to leadership on schedules, cash flow, and budget variances.
  • Ensure compliance with safety protocols and manufacturing best practices.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously, including occasional travel to vendor sites and other facilities.
  • Support project closure activities, including asset allocation and disposal.
  • Serve as a backup for other Project Engineers when needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Chemical, Mechanical, or related field).
  • 8-10 years of capital project engineering experience in the food and beverage industry; coffee industry experience is highly preferred.
  • PMP certification is a plus.
  • Strong familiarity with PMI's PMBOK Guide.
  • Demonstrated leadership, business acumen, and excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in cross-functional teams.
  • High energy, adaptability, and a proactive mindset.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and project management tools.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Competitive salary range: $144,000 - $216,000, plus performance-based bonus.
  • Comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, 401(k) match, disability coverage, health savings and flexible spending accounts, tuition reimbursement, mental health services, fertility assistance, and paid parental leave.
  • Generous PTO policy with 120 hours annually and 11 paid holidays.
