The Refrigeration Supervisor - should have the following skill set:

Education & Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • 2-3 years of experience in a meat processing or similar industrial facility.
  • Prior supervisory experience required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Outlook.

Technical Knowledge

  • Knowledge of Anhydrous Ammonia systems, electrical, electronic, microprocessor, and mechanical systems.
  • Understanding of refrigeration boilers, HVAC hydraulics, pneumatics, and computerized maintenance management systems.
  • Knowledge of food plant production or processing equipment preferred.
  • Familiarity with standards related to PSM, OSHA, EPA, USDA, and sanitation.

Licenses / Certifications

Candidates must hold at least one (1) of the following ammonia certifications - they do not need all of them:

  • OP1 (Anhydrous Ammonia)
  • OP2
  • OP3 (Tech 1)

Other preferred or obtainable certifications:

  • CIRO - Certified Industrial Refrigeration Operator
  • CRES - Certified Refrigeration Energy Specialist

The Refrigeration Supervisor - will:

  • Lead and supervise 2-3 team members responsible for maintaining the facility's ammonia refrigeration system.
  • Ensure all refrigeration activities are completed safely and efficiently, following company policies and standard operating procedures.
  • Plan and organize work shifts to support engine room operations.
  • Inspect refrigeration processes and evaluate team performance.
  • Coordinate workflow with internal departments and external contractors.
  • Train and mentor staff in troubleshooting and maintaining ammonia refrigeration equipment, including compressors, condensers, pumps, evaporators, valves, and related components.
  • Diagnose operational issues through observation, testing, and operator collaboration.
  • Perform preventative maintenance aligned with PSM schedules and ensure ammonia safety equipment remains up to date.
  • Uphold compliance with OSHA, EPA RMP, PSM, and internal safety programs.
  • Ensure appropriate use of PPE and compliance with all plant policies.
