Research & Development Manager
My Client is seeking a highly driven Research & Development Manager to lead product innovation, development, and commercialization efforts within a dynamic food manufacturing environment. The ideal candidate combines strong food science expertise, project leadership skills, and commercial awareness to successfully bring new products from concept through launch while ensuring quality, regulatory compliance, and customer satisfaction.
This role serves as both a technical and strategic leader, partnering with customers, suppliers, operations, and cross-functional teams to drive innovation and support business growth.
Key Responsibilities
Product Development & Commercialization
- Lead product development initiatives from concept, feasibility, and formulation through pilot trials, scale-up, and commercialization.
- Manage multiple new product development projects simultaneously while ensuring timelines and business objectives are met.
- Support product launches and work closely with operations to ensure successful manufacturing execution.
- Drive continuous product improvement initiatives focused on quality, performance, and consumer preferences.
Technical Leadership
- Serve as the primary technical resource for product development and customer-facing innovation projects.
- Establish product standards, specifications, and performance benchmarks.
- Oversee formulation development, ingredient functionality assessments, and technical evaluations.
- Lead troubleshooting efforts related to product quality, process performance, and commercialization challenges.
Food Science & Product Quality
- Develop testing protocols, shelf-life studies, sensory evaluation programs, and experimental design methodologies.
- Ensure products meet quality, food safety, and regulatory requirements.
- Establish consistent product evaluation processes and communicate results across the organization.
- Drive scientific rigor and best practices throughout the development process.
Supplier & Industry Engagement
- Develop relationships with ingredient suppliers and technology partners.
- Identify emerging ingredients, technologies, consumer trends, and innovation opportunities.
- Evaluate new materials and technologies that support product differentiation and business growth.
Project & Team Leadership
- Manage project priorities, resources, and development timelines.
- Collaborate closely with operations, quality, procurement, marketing, sales, and customers.
- Provide leadership and mentorship to technical team members.
- Support strategic planning and innovation pipeline development.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Food Technology, or related scientific discipline.
- 5+ years of food product development experience, with leadership experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge of food science, ingredient functionality, and food manufacturing processes.
- Proven track record of successful product development and commercialization.
- Strong understanding of food safety regulations and industry standards.
