This position is fully onsite in Vallejo, Ca.

Position Summary

The Senior Buyer will report directly to the Procurement Manager and play a key role in sourcing the components and materials used to manufacture Kindred vehicles. This position combines strategic sourcing responsibilities with day-to-day purchasing activities, requiring a hands-on approach in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate will work closely with engineering, design, production, and supplier partners to support the development and launch of both commercial off-the-shelf and custom-designed components. This individual will manage procurement activities throughout the product lifecycle, from concept through production, and will have the opportunity to help build and lead a procurement team as the organization grows.

The ideal candidate will bring experience purchasing components within a manufacturing environment, preferably within an early-stage or high-growth company. They should be highly self-motivated, comfortable making decisions independently, and passionate about driving process improvements, supplier performance, and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Source, evaluate, and procure quality materials, components, and services required for production and development activities.
  • Identify and qualify new suppliers to ensure a reliable and competitive supply base.
  • Build strong partnerships with suppliers and negotiate pricing, lead times, and commercial terms.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, quality, production, materials, and finance teams to support business objectives.
  • Manage purchase requisitions, issue purchase orders, and provide updates on order status and supply risks.
  • Monitor inventory levels and support material planning efforts to maintain appropriate stock levels.
  • Coordinate logistics and transportation activities to ensure timely delivery of materials.
  • Analyze market conditions, supplier capabilities, and cost trends to support informed sourcing decisions.
  • Review incoming materials for compliance with quality standards and resolve supplier-related discrepancies.
  • Track supplier performance and drive corrective actions when necessary.
  • Expedite, defer, or cancel purchase orders based on demand fluctuations and production requirements, minimizing the risk of shortages or line disruptions.
  • Procure a wide range of materials and services, including sheet metal, electronics, tooling, parts, and production supplies.
  • Obtain quotations, evaluate supplier proposals, and place orders with approved vendors.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives across procurement and supply chain operations.
  • Perform additional duties as needed to support organizational goals.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience in procurement, purchasing, supply planning, or a related function within a manufacturing environment.
  • Understanding of quality standards and supplier quality requirements.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes and production environments.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams.
  • Self-starter capable of working independently and managing multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Proven ability to meet deadlines and perform effectively in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and other business software applications.
  • Experience using ERP systems in a manufacturing setting.
  • Adaptable, flexible, and comfortable navigating change.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with PTC Arena, Onshape, or similar Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems.
  • Experience with Fishbowl or other ERP platforms.
  • Experience utilizing Retool or similar workflow automation tools.
  • Prior purchasing experience within automotive, medical device, electronics, or other highly regulated manufacturing industries.
