Senior Controls Engineer

Position Overview:

The Global Manufacturing Engineering team leverages talented professionals, advanced technologies, and innovative solutions to ensure the quality and performance of complex drug delivery devices. The Senior Controls Engineer provides engineering and technical expertise to maximize the team's contribution to overall company performance.

This role involves leading hardware and software controls development for assembly and packaging equipment, process equipment, and high-speed applications. The ideal candidate will create new solutions for each project, lead installation and start-up of new equipment, implement improvements to existing systems, and drive continuous improvement initiatives. Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills are essential. The candidate must be self-driven, quick to learn, and able to thrive in a dynamic environment managing multiple projects simultaneously.


Responsibilities:

  • Install and troubleshoot control systems, servo drives, motors, HMIs, and PLCs on high-speed assembly, packaging, and process equipment.
  • Develop and improve imaging programs for assembly and processing equipment.
  • Design and review wiring diagrams and logic for new equipment, retrofits, and upgrades.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives across manufacturing operations.
  • Apply strong troubleshooting skills to identify root causes and implement solutions.
  • Conduct research and analyze data for specifications, feasibility studies, and productivity improvements.
  • Plan tasks and contribute significantly to team objectives.
  • Develop medium to large control systems programs from scratch.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • 10+ years of hands-on assembly and manufacturing experience, including clean-sheet design and continuous improvement for discrete component assembly equipment.

Preferred Skills and Competencies:

  • Extensive experience in engineering, design, and development of manufacturing equipment for high-volume, high-speed, high-precision assembly operations.
  • Strong programming knowledge of PLCs and HMI systems (Rockwell Automation preferred).
  • Familiarity with servo drives, VFDs, and motion control concepts.
  • Experience with imaging systems and software is a plus.
  • Knowledge of robotics and automation for material handling and component feeding.
  • Strong project management, organizational, and documentation skills.
  • Ability to multitask and maintain focus on priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Solid communication and report-writing skills.
  • SQL Server and Visual Basic programming experience is a plus.
  • Commitment to safety standards and continuous process improvement.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a dynamic team environment.

Physical Requirements:

  • Domestic and international travel required (approximately 10%).
