Senior Process Controls Engineer

The Senior Process Controls Engineer (PCE) partners closely with Production and Continuous Improvement teams to develop, implement, and maintain automation solutions across the manufacturing facility. This position requires a solid understanding of plant operations and equipment, enabling the engineer to identify and apply the most effective control and automation technologies. Key responsibilities include control system programming, defining hardware and software requirements, supporting system commissioning, and providing ongoing operational and troubleshooting assistance.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Promote environmental, health, and safety compliance while driving continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Lead the deployment, enhancement, and maintenance of plant automation and process monitoring systems.
  • Develop and optimize control strategies for both batch and continuous manufacturing operations.
  • Collaborate with global engineering teams to establish and maintain automation and control system standards.
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting assistance to manufacturing operations.
  • Create and deliver automation and process control training programs for plant personnel.
  • Identify automation improvement opportunities and support capital project planning and budgeting.
  • Maintain and enhance automation systems through programming, system integration, preventive maintenance, and long-term planning.
  • Participate in Management of Change (MOC) and Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) activities related to control systems.
  • Support IT/OT integration initiatives, including cybersecurity, system upgrades, and lifecycle management.
  • Manage automation infrastructure and control networks to ensure safe, reliable, and secure plant operations.
  • Assist with commissioning, startup, and optimization of new equipment and processes.
  • Contribute to production and operational review meetings.
  • Monitor KPIs, track project performance, and communicate progress on technical initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with corporate quality standards and ISO 9001 requirements.
  • Support Responsible Care and environmental management programs through active participation and adherence to established principles.
  • Drive process optimization and operational excellence initiatives by applying continuous improvement methodologies to enhance productivity, quality, and manufacturing performance.
  • Partner cross-functionally with Operations, Quality, Engineering, R&D, and Commercial teams to identify, develop, and implement process control and automation improvements across manufacturing systems.
  • Improve plant reliability, efficiency, sustainability, and cost performance through data-driven process enhancements, best-practice standardization, and ongoing performance monitoring.

Ideal Skillset:

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent industry experience.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, Word, and database management tools.
  • Strong understanding of industrial manufacturing processes and associated equipment.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate across teams.
  • Familiarity with automation and control system standards related to process safety, alarm philosophy, batch operations, and industrial cybersecurity.
  • Proven analytical and troubleshooting abilities for identifying and resolving technical issues.
