Senior Purchasing Manager

We're supporting a leading U.S.-based manufacturer in the industrial manufacturing industry on their search for an experienced Senior Purchasing Manager to join its growing team. This individual will oversee procurement operations, inventory control, and supplier relationships while managing a team of professionals and administrative staff. This role includes strategic sourcing, vendor negotiations, and planning for complex or long-lead-time components.

Key Responsibilities

  • Direct and monitor purchasing activities to meet standards for cost, quality, and reliability.
  • Maintain purchasing systems and track order status to support inventory and production needs.
  • Analyze demand forecasts and historical data to determine purchase quantities and timing.
  • Make commodity-based decisions considering global market trends (e.g., metals, energy).
  • Establish safety stock levels and standard order quantities.
  • Collaborate with operations, engineering, and sales teams to anticipate material requirements.
  • Evaluate and select suppliers; negotiate pricing, delivery terms, and contracts.
  • Review and approve purchase requisitions and orders within authority limits.
  • Update pricing and lead time data in ERP systems; validate price changes.
  • Resolve supplier issues related to quality or delivery; manage escalations.
  • Analyze purchasing trends and identify cost-saving opportunities.
  • Supervise and prioritize team activities to ensure efficiency and target achievement.
  • Manage inventory levels and respond to shortages proactively.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration or related field.
  • 7+ years of purchasing experience, preferably in industrial equipment.
  • Minimum of 2 years in a leadership role.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and ERP systems.
  • Strong negotiation, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities.
