Sr. Mechanical Project Engineer

We're hiring a Sr. Mechanical Project Engineer to drive capital projects and plant performance in a heavy manufacturing environment. This position plays a critical role in executing large-scale engineering initiatives while partnering closely with operations and maintenance teams to improve reliability, efficiency, and long-term performance. The role offers end-to-end ownership of projects across a complex, multi-process production facility.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead capital and improvement projects from early concept through installation and startup
  • Oversee project timelines, budgets, and execution to ensure successful delivery
  • Partner with cross-functional teams (operations, maintenance, and engineering) to solve production challenges
  • Manage third-party vendors, contractors, and engineering resources throughout project lifecycles
  • Support plant shutdown activities, including coordination and execution of key maintenance projects
  • Develop technical scopes, evaluate design alternatives, and mitigate project risk
  • Ensure proper documentation, drawings, and specifications are developed and maintained
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on reliability, safety, and operational efficiency
  • Assist with forecasting project spend and capital planning efforts

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
  • 4-10 years of experience managing capital or engineering projects in a manufacturing or industrial setting
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to juggle multiple initiatives simultaneously
  • Experience working in process-driven environments (e.g., paper, chemicals, metals, or similar industries) preferred
  • Proficiency with project tools and standard engineering software (Excel, project scheduling tools, etc.)
  • Strong problem-solving mindset with the ability to troubleshoot operational issues
  • Effective communicator who can collaborate across departments and with external partners
