Senior Hardware Design Engineer - Defense & Aerospace Test Instrumentation

Location: North Reading, MA area (local candidates only) | Work Model: Onsite

Compensation: $111,300 - $178,200 base + comprehensive benefits

A global leader in automated test equipment is growing its Defense & Aerospace division, which builds mission-critical test solutions for military and aerospace customers around the world. Growth is driven by next-generation defense programs and modernization work. In this role you'll own the hardware: you'll design digital, analog and optical test instrumentation and take each design from architecture through bring-up and release.

What You'll Do

  • Lead high-level architecture, component selection, schematic capture and artwork generation for digital, analog and optical instrumentation
  • Build and execute prototyping plans covering bring-up, debug and validation, including edge-case circuit behavior
  • Debug analog, digital and bus-based hardware with oscilloscopes and benchtop lab equipment
  • Run worst-case, tolerance and environmental stress analysis that goes beyond nominal conditions
  • Analyze verification data and report design status, risks and release readiness to engineering and management
  • Partner with mechanical, systems, software, applications, quality and operations teams to improve manufacturability and testability
  • Take part in design reviews to lower design risk and prevent respins

What You'll Bring

  • BSEE or MSEE
  • 5-12 years of PCBA design and simulation experience, with a focus on schematic and circuit design
  • Experience designing complex, high-speed, multi-layer PCB assemblies and reviewing artwork
  • Strong circuit characterization, verification and debug skills
  • Experience presenting design work and risks to customers and project management
  • Basic PCBA rework capability
  • C/C++ experience preferred
  • U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident (ITAR)

Why This Role

  • You'll be the technical owner of hardware that directly supports defense and aerospace missions
  • The division is growing on the strength of modernization programs
  • You'll work across the full design lifecycle, from architecture to release
  • Benefits are strong and include tuition assistance and retirement savings
  • Your employer is a stable global technology leader
