Senior MES Engineer
Position Overview:
The Sr. MES Controls Engineer will lead the implementation, maintenance, upgrades, and enhancements to current and future plant MES systems. These systems are integrated with manufacturing operations and collect data used for product traceability, inventory control, and quality assurance. This position is critical to organizational growth and expansion.
The engineer will be responsible for the successful deployment of new systems and improvements to existing installations. This role involves cross-functional leadership and collaboration with vendors on prioritized projects aligned with business goals. The team delivers automated manufacturing controls and product test processes that are scalable, cost-effective, reliable, documented, and validated. Responsibilities include leading equipment installation and start-up, improving existing systems, and driving continuous improvement initiatives. Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills are essential.
Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, implement, and analyze automated high-speed manufacturing and test control systems, focusing on MES and data collection.
- Create schematics, wiring diagrams, network topology, and machine control designs; oversee prototype fabrication and assembly with external vendors.
- Apply principles of electronics and electrical design, including digital, analog, RF, and mixed signal systems.
- Integrate data collection for quality, productivity, and official lot records; support IT security practices and network design for manufacturing.
- Provide extensive support for continuous improvement and problem resolution using data-driven decision-making.
- Support process verification, validation, and documentation.
- Use data and observation to drive cross-functional problem resolution.
- Conduct research and data analysis for specifications, feasibility studies, and productivity improvements.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or related field.
- 10+ years of hands-on automation engineering experience in assembly and manufacturing, including clean sheet design and continuous improvement implementation.
Preferred Skills and Competencies:
- MES integration experience required.
- Experience with Rockwell Automation products required.
- Vision Systems and Robotics experience preferred.
- Advanced programming knowledge of Rockwell Automation RSLogix5000 and FTView ME/SE preferred.
- Experience with B&R controls software and hardware is a strong plus.
- Extensive experience in automation controls, high-speed component feeding, and material handling is a strong plus.
- Experience in regulated environments (e.g., medical devices) with validated processes is a plus.
- Strong project management, organizational, and documentation skills desired.
- SQL Server Database knowledge and Visual Basic programming required.
- Ability to uphold safety standards, participate in continuous process improvement, and follow business best practices.
- Ability to work in a collaborative and dynamic team environment.
Physical Requirements:
- Domestic and international travel required, estimated at 15%.
