Electrical & Instrumentation Engineer

Main Function:

  • Responsible for improving process controls reliability.
  • Responsible for continuous improvement of instrumentation and controls.
  • Respond to and resolve instrumentation and control issues.
  • Responsible for continuous improvement of plant electrical power distribution and motor control systems.
  • Responsible for development and implementation of plant electrical Capital and Expense projects.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage the development and troubleshooting of instrumentation and control systems.
  • Develop instrumentation installation drawings, data sheets, and specifications in full compliance with recognized industry and safety standards.
  • Develop technical tabulations to support the selection of instrumentation and control systems.
  • Assist in the technical development of assigned plant project P&IDs.
  • Assist in the development of I&E project schedules and manpower requirements.
  • Provide support for procurement of instrument items.
  • Assist engineering teams in managing plant DCS.
  • Support the development of I&E Technicians' skills and capabilities in the operation and maintenance of plant instrumentation and electrical systems.
  • Maintain a high degree of reliability in all controls, instrumentation, and emission monitoring systems.
  • Develop and implement projects to upgrade plant motor control centers and power distribution systems.
  • Assist with troubleshooting of electrical problems (motors, wiring, etc.) to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
  • Assist with annual Unit Turnarounds as needed.
  • Develop programs to prevent accidents and maintain safe working conditions.
  • Respond during emergency downtime situations or when problems occur.
  • Provide occasional oversight of the Maintenance Department I&E Group.

Characteristics:

  • High energy level, team player, excellent work ethic, with strong project management skills.
  • Ability to build and enhance relationships with electrical contractors, vendors, and suppliers to improve access to needed parts/support and enhance plant reliability.

Education and Experience:

  • Engineering degree required, preferably in Electrical Engineering.
  • Entry-level; internship or 1 year of experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with NFPA/NEC codes is a plus.
  • Experience with DCS systems.
  • Effective computer skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
