Purchasing Manager (Indirect + MRO Procurement)

Location: Livingston, CA
Compensation: $140,000-$150,000 + 10% bonus

Overview

A leading, large-scale manufacturing organization is seeking a Purchasing Manager to lead indirect procurement across a multi-site operational footprint. This is a high-impact leadership role responsible for managing a significant spend portfolio and driving strategic sourcing initiatives that directly influence cost, efficiency, and supplier performance.

The role offers the opportunity to lead a team, optimize procurement processes, and partner closely with operations and finance to enhance overall business performance.


Key Responsibilities

Strategic Sourcing & Cost Optimization

  • Own and manage $200M+ in indirect spend across MRO, indirect supplies, and site services
  • Lead competitive sourcing events, supplier negotiations, and contract development
  • Identify and execute cost savings initiatives through analytics, process improvements, and supplier consolidation
  • Develop and implement category strategies aligned with business objectives

Supplier & Contract Management

  • Manage a large portfolio of supplier relationships and agreements across multiple locations
  • Establish supplier KPIs and conduct business reviews to drive performance improvements
  • Ensure consistent contract terms, pricing structures, and service levels across the organization

Team Leadership

  • Lead and develop a team of procurement professionals (buyers, coordinators, and agents)
  • Provide coaching, mentorship, and performance management to drive team effectiveness
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with operations, maintenance, and finance teams to align procurement strategies
  • Support plant-level needs while driving enterprise-wide sourcing standardization
  • Assist with risk management initiatives related to suppliers, compliance, and safety

Process Improvement & Governance

  • Improve procurement processes using lean / continuous improvement methodologies
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, regulatory requirements, and ethical sourcing practices
  • Leverage ERP systems and analytics tools to enhance visibility and decision-making

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree (Business, Engineering, or related field)
  • 5+ years of procurement or sourcing experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience within indirect procurement (MRO, services, or indirect materials)
  • Proven track record in supplier negotiations, contract management, and cost reduction
  • Prior leadership experience managing or mentoring procurement teams
  • Strong analytical skills (advanced Excel; ERP systems such as SAP preferred)

Preferred

  • MBA or advanced degree
  • Experience in complex, multi-site manufacturing environments
  • Familiarity with continuous improvement methodologies (Lean, Six Sigma)
  • Exposure to large-scale indirect spend categories across operations
