Maintenance Manager

Overview: The Maintenance Manager is responsible for planning, organizing, and overseeing activities related to the management of mechanical and electrical services. This role involves developing and executing operational and preventive maintenance strategies to ensure optimal service to internal customers. The Maintenance Manager ensures that health & safety, environmental, and budgetary considerations are central to the department's mission. Additionally, this role focuses on the development of team members to support continuous improvement processes.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead health and safety initiatives within the plant management team by setting targets and establishing processes.
  • Ensure alignment between maintenance and operations to focus on common objectives.
  • Provide the team with a clear structure, rigorous standards, and effective communication tools.
  • Actively participate in the maintenance process, from planning and scheduling to completion and post-mortem analysis, to minimize production downtime. Ensure that out-of-schedule requests are justified.
  • Implement and enforce an effective Contractor's Policy.
  • Monitor daily issues in each department and ensure good communication and connections. Ensure continuous operations support (24/7 or as required) through backup maintenance teams.
  • Manage the implementation of best maintenance management practices, such as reliability based on the condition of critical equipment, and ensure sustainability through an audit system.
  • Question and challenge manpower needs and material expenses to ensure cost control.
  • Periodically review team members' performance and ensure improvement through individual and team development plans.
  • Monitor labor maintenance costs and develop strategies to adapt to new industry realities.
  • Ensure effective corrective actions in health, safety, quality, production, and environmental areas to identify and correct root causes.
  • Perform any other tasks as requested.

  • Knowledge of equipment reliability principles.
  • Skills in planning, organization, and priority management.
  • Ability to read, comprehend, and interpret detailed equipment drawings and manuals.
  • Teamwork: Collaborate and share relevant information with colleagues to ensure uniform and efficient workforce management.

Qualifications:

Academic:

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical or mechanical engineering or a related field.

Experience:

  • 7-10 years of experience in a similar maintenance management role, including staff supervision. Experience in the corrugated industry is an asset.
  • Experience in implementing reliability and continuous improvement maintenance tools and strategies.
  • Experience with implementing and maintaining a Computer Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Proficiency with computer systems, tools, and software (Microsoft Suite, JDEdwards Maintenance Module).
