Senior Maintenance & Project Engineer - Mechanical (M/F/D)
Our client is recruiting a Senior Mechanical Project Engineer for a permanent role at one of their manufacturing facilities. With over 85 years of operational experience and two advanced cement‑manufacturing plants, our client is a long-established leader in Ireland's heavy industry sector. The successful individual will report to the Engineering Manager and will take a central role in maintaining plant reliability while supporting major engineering and improvement projects.
Role Responsibilities
The Senior Mechanical Engineer will operate across both day‑to‑day maintenance and large engineering projects, ensuring safe, efficient, and reliable plant performance.
- Work collaboratively with a cross‑functional maintenance team
- Take ownership of a defined plant area and its mechanical performance
- Ensure preventative and predictive maintenance schedules are carried out effectively
- Plan and coordinate major plant shutdowns, overhauls, and inspections
- Manage contractors and ensure work is completed safely and to required standards
- Improve plant uptime through proactive troubleshooting and problem resolution
- Contribute to ongoing improvements in safety, environmental performance, and compliance
- Scope and define projects that enhance plant performance and deliver commercial value
- Oversee engineering activities from construction through to installation
- Support commissioning phases and ensure smooth transition to operations

Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will demonstrate:
- A Mechanical Engineering qualification
- Strong understanding of Health & Safety standards in heavy industry environments
- At least five years' experience in a comparable mechanical engineering role
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills
- Strong technical capability paired with sound commercial judgement
- High proficiency with MS Office and AutoCAD
- Strong attention to detail, with the ability to work independently and meet project deadlines
- A proven record of adding value and contributing to the success of previous employers
