Director of Demand Planning
Our client, a highly respected and fast‑growing leader in the retail industry, is seeking an experienced Director of Demand Planning to build and elevate a world‑class forecasting and demand management function. This is a high‑visibility role with significant influence over supply chain strategy, inventory performance, and cross‑functional alignment across the enterprise.
Role Overview
The Director of Demand Planning will oversee the development of robust, data‑driven forecasts across multiple categories while driving continuous improvement in forecasting accuracy, inventory efficiency, and business planning. This leader will collaborate closely with Merchandising, Supply Chain, Finance, Operations, and senior leadership to align demand expectations with strategic priorities.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and develop a high‑performing demand planning team across multiple product categories
- Build and execute advanced forecasting models using statistical techniques, market insights, and trend analytics
- Drive S&OP alignment by partnering closely with Merchandising, Supply Chain, Finance, and Operations
- Monitor forecast accuracy, identify variances, and implement continuous improvement initiatives
- Translate demand trends into actionable insights that inform inventory, assortment, and financial strategies
- Develop standardized tools, dashboards, and forecasting KPIs to enhance visibility and decision‑making
- Collaborate cross‑functionally to assess demand risk, support scenario planning, and develop mitigation strategies
- Lead integration or enhancement of forecasting technologies and demand planning systems
- Support annual planning and long‑range forecasting with strategic demand input
- Present forecast insights, risks, and recommendations to senior leadership
Qualifications
- 10+ years of progressive experience in demand planning, forecasting, or supply chain planning
- Proven leadership experience within retail, omnichannel, or consumer products environments
- Strong analytical and quantitative skills with hands‑on experience in advanced forecasting tools
- Demonstrated success improving forecast accuracy, inventory performance, and planning processes
- Experience managing, coaching, and developing planning teams
- Deep understanding of S&OP processes and cross‑functional business planning
- Proficiency with demand planning software such as SAP IBP, Blue Yonder, o9, Anaplan, or Oracle
- Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to influence at all levels and thrive in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment
- Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree or APICS/CPIM/CSCP certification preferred
