Lab Technician
Key Responsibilities
Test Lab Support
- Support day‑to‑day operations of the engineering test laboratory
- Assist with setup, execution, and documentation of product testing to applicable safety and performance standards (e.g., UL, CSA)
- Perform hands‑on wiring, soldering, and test setup for small electro‑mechanical products
- Operate standard lab equipment and automated test fixtures to collect test data
- Maintain accurate test records and organize test data per established procedures
- Assist with equipment maintenance, calibration tracking, and general lab readiness
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized lab environment
Product Testing & Evaluation
- Test and evaluate new, existing, and competitive products
- Support debugging and failure analysis of electro‑mechanical devices
- Assist engineers with root cause investigations related to field failures and product returns
- Help develop and document test procedures and test reports
- Support evaluation of product changes, new components, or alternate suppliers
Returns Lab Support
- Assist with processing, logging, and organization of returned products
- Help investigate returned units and document findings under engineer guidance
- Support disposition of returns, including scrapping and recycling activities
- Maintain organization and cleanliness of the returns lab
Qualifications
Education
- Associate degree or coursework in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field preferred
- Equivalent hands‑on technical experience will be considered
Required Skills & Experience
- Experience working with electro‑mechanical products, preferably consumer or small appliances
- Hands‑on mechanical aptitude; ability to perform wiring, soldering, and basic troubleshooting
- Familiarity with standard lab test equipment and measurement tools
- Ability to follow test procedures and document results accurately
- Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities with attention to detail
- Strong communication skills and willingness to learn from senior engineers
Nice to Have
- Exposure to safety or compliance testing (UL, CSA, or similar)
- Experience in a lab, test, manufacturing, or machine‑shop environment
- Familiarity with OSHA or lab safety practices
