Job Title: Purchasing Manager

Job Overview: A leader in metal manufacturing and production is looking for a dynamic and proactive Purchasing Manager to lead improvements across procurement processes, specifically focusing on metals procurement and raw material sourcing. This role is essential for sourcing high-quality materials and services at optimal value while fostering strong supplier relationships. The Purchasing Manager will work closely with both internal teams and external vendors to streamline operations and support strategic objectives, while leading a dynamic team of purchasing professionals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to safety policies and practices to protect all stakeholders from hazards and injuries.
  • Develop and implement short and long-term procurement strategies for metals, including sourcing for raw materials & secondary scrap markets.
  • Ensure material availability through effective logistical coordination.
  • Assess and manage risks related to metal market fluctuations, including hedging strategies to mitigate exposure.
  • Negotiate and finalize contracts with suppliers and vendors.
  • Oversee purchasing, logistics, inventory, and disposal of materials in line with policies and goals.
  • Establish and maintain a system for supplier and vendor approval.
  • Control costs and ensure timely completion of reports and forecasts.
  • Provide leadership and drive process improvement initiatives.
  • Lead and mentor a team of buyers, fostering a collaborative and high-performance environment.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and relevant regulations.
  • Maintain a positive work environment and foster teamwork across departments.
  • Coach, mentor, and train the purchasing team.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Preferred: Bachelor's degree in a related field or 5 years of experience in specialty alloys, metals, or a related industry; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proven experience in metals procurement and raw material sourcing.
  • Strong understanding of hedging strategies and risk management in metal markets.
  • Excellent communication skills, including written, oral, and effective listening.
  • Previous supervisory experience and demonstrated leadership abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
