An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Project Cargo Manager to join a well-established and highly regarded international freight forwarding organisation based in London. This role is ideally suited to a specialist within project logistics / heavy lift / oversized cargo, looking to take ownership of complex, high-value shipments across global markets.
You will play a pivotal role in managing end-to-end project cargo operations, working closely with commercial teams, clients, carriers, and subcontractors to ensure the successful execution of intricate logistics solutions. This position offers strong exposure to key industry sectors such as energy, infrastructure, construction, and industrial projects.
Key Responsibilities
- End-to-End Project Management:
Lead and manage the full life-cycle of project cargo shipments, including planning, execution, monitoring, and completion of complex logistics moves. - Operational Coordination:
Oversee multimodal transport solutions (sea, air, road, and heavy lift), ensuring seamless coordination between internal teams, overseas offices, and external partners. - Project Planning & Execution:
Develop detailed transport plans, route surveys, and lifting strategies for oversized, out-of-gauge (OOG), and heavy cargo shipments. - Client Relationship Management:
Act as the primary point of contact for key project clients, providing regular updates, managing expectations, and delivering tailored logistics solutions. - Commercial & Cost Control:
Prepare and manage project budgets, quotations, and cost tracking, ensuring profitability while maintaining high service standards. - Vendor & Carrier Management:
Build and maintain strong relationships with carriers, hauliers, and specialized contractors to secure competitive rates and reliable service delivery. - Risk Management & Compliance:
Ensure all shipments comply with international regulations, health & safety standards, and project-specific requirements, mitigating risks throughout execution. - Internal Collaboration:
Work closely with the sales and business development teams to support tender submissions and contribute operational expertise to complex bids.
Key Skills & Experience
- Project Logistics Expertise:
Proven experience managing project cargo / heavy lift shipments within a freight forwarding or logistics provider environment. - Freight Forwarding Knowledge:
Strong operational understanding of global freight forwarding processes, including documentation, incoterms, customs, and multi modal solutions. - Commercial Acumen:
Ability to balance operational delivery with profitability, including pricing, cost control, and margin management. - Technical Competence:
Experience handling OOG cargo, route planning, lifting requirements, and working with specialist equipment providers. - Problem-Solving Mindset:
Strong analytical and decision-making skills, with the ability to resolve complex logistical challenges under pressure. - Stakeholder Management:
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to manage relationships across internal teams and external clients globally.
