R&D Scientist - Dairy
Our client, a global leader in the ingredients manufacturing space, is seeking an R&D Scientist to support innovation and product development within liquid dairy systems. This individual will play a key role in developing and optimizing formulations, leading projects from early concept through commercialization, and supporting technical initiatives across cross-functional teams. This is a highly hands-on role ideal for someone with strong formulation expertise, experience in thermally processed liquid systems, and a passion for driving product innovation.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead formulation and development of liquid dairy products (e.g., RTD beverages, protein drinks, cultured systems) from concept through commercialization
- Design and execute bench-top experiments, pilot plant trials, and scale-up activities
- Evaluate ingredient functionality, including proteins, stabilizers, emulsifiers, and flavor systems
- Assess the impact of thermal processing methods (e.g., UHT, pasteurization) on product quality and stability
- Troubleshoot formulation and processing challenges, including shelf-life, texture, and flavor performance
- Support commercialization by collaborating with manufacturing, QA, and operations teams during scale-up and production
- Partner cross-functionally with marketing, regulatory, and external stakeholders to meet customer and business objectives
- Document experimental results and maintain thorough technical records for internal and customer-facing use
Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Food Science, Dairy Science, or a related technical discipline
- 3-7+ years of industry experience in dairy or dairy-focused product development
- Hands-on experience with liquid dairy systems, including dairy beverages or protein-based formulations
- Strong understanding of thermal processing and its impact on product stability and quality
- Experience working in lab and pilot plant environments
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and timelines simultaneously
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills
Preferred Experience
- Exposure to aseptic processing or shelf-stable dairy systems
- Experience working with high-protein or functional dairy formulations
- Customer-facing or applications development experience
- Familiarity with scale-up and commercialization in a manufacturing environment
