R&D Strategic Sourcing Specialist
Role Overview:
The R&D Category Buyer is responsible for executing the global sourcing strategy within assigned vendor categories. This role supports R&D teams by understanding their needs and delivering fit-for-purpose sourcing solutions. Operating in alignment with the Head of Procurement and Category Manager, the Buyer contributes to the strategic development of the R&D category and acts as a sourcing specialist.
Key Responsibilities:
Sourcing Strategy & Category Management
- Develop and implement sourcing strategies for assigned categories.
- Build strong relationships with key suppliers to ensure innovation, service excellence, and favorable terms.
- Conduct supplier market and risk analysis; identify process improvements.
- Lead supplier negotiations and manage performance through regular business reviews.
- Ensure compliance with ethical standards and promote responsible sourcing.
- Support contract negotiations and maintain alignment with internal stakeholders.
Productivity & Cost Optimization
- Analyze spend and cost drivers across categories.
- Lead end-to-end sourcing processes from RFP to contract signature.
- Deliver measurable savings and track productivity against targets.
- Contribute to budget planning and forecasting aligned with financial goals.
- Promote collaboration across sites and purchasing entities to drive efficiency and scale.
Process Management & Reporting
- Strong understanding of Source-to-Pay (S2P) processes and tools to enhance efficiency and service levels.
- Collect and report on global procurement KPIs.
- Maintain dashboards and communicate performance metrics to leadership.

Qualifications:
Education & Training
- Bachelor's degree in Life Sciences, complemented by professional certifications in procurement, contract negotiation, and project management.
Experience
- 3-4 years in a mid-sized pharmaceutical company or global CRO, with experience in outsourcing, procurement, or contract development.
- Strong understanding of life sciences and financial/business principles.
- Skilled in translating technical project needs into budgets, risk assessments, and timelines.
- Confident in vendor negotiations and agreement management.
Skills
- Strong analytical and communication skills.
- Comfortable working in cross-functional and multicultural environments.
- Proficient in Excel and familiar with generative AI tools.
