We're looking for a hands-on Lab Technician to perform metallurgical and materials testing on industrial coatings, ensuring product quality meets internal and customer specifications. This is a full-time, on-site laboratory role focused on sample preparation, testing, analysis, and reporting.
The Lab Technician will have the following responsibilities:
* Prepare metallographic samples through sectioning, mounting, grinding, and polishing for microscopic evaluation
* Analyze coating microstructures using optical microscopy and evaluate coating quality, thickness, porosity, and interface integrity
* Capture, measure, and document test results and microstructural images against acceptance criteria
* Perform Rockwell, Vickers, and microhardness testing on coating and substrate materials
* Conduct tensile and adhesion testing, recording test data and failure modes
* Operate, maintain, and calibrate laboratory equipment including microscopes, hardness testers, polishing equipment, and tensile testing systems
* Generate test reports, document results accurately, and identify nonconforming conditions
* Support root cause investigations, quality initiatives, and process improvement activities
* Maintain laboratory safety, housekeeping, calibration records, and inventory controls
The ideal Lab Technician candidate will have the following skillset:
* 4+ years of hands-on materials, metallurgical, or quality laboratory experience
* Strong experience with metallography, microscopy, hardness testing, and mechanical testing methods
* Ability to interpret metallurgical structures and distinguish material defects from preparation artifacts
* Experience operating polishing equipment, hardness testers, and tensile testing machinery
* Strong measurement, analytical, and documentation skills
* Ability to work independently while following detailed procedures and quality requirements
* Preferred: Experience with thermal spray coatings, materials testing laboratories, image analysis software, and quality management systems
* Associate degree or technical certification in Materials Science, Metallurgy, or related technical field preferred
