Staff Electrical Engineer

We are partnering with a leading testing, inspection, and certification organization to identify a Staff Electrical Engineer to support the evaluation and certification of industrial electrical equipment and power systems.

This position offers the opportunity to work with manufacturers, utilities, EPC firms, and industrial customers on highly technical projects involving electrical safety, compliance, performance testing, and regulatory standards. The role combines hands-on engineering, customer interaction, technical leadership, and mentorship within a collaborative engineering environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluate electrical equipment against applicable industry and regulatory standards
  • Conduct on-site and laboratory-based design reviews, inspections, and compliance assessments
  • Develop test plans, certification strategies, and evaluation programs aligned with customer requirements
  • Perform or witness testing related to dielectric withstand, insulation coordination, temperature rise, current ratings, grounding and bonding, and enclosure protection
  • Support preliminary design reviews for utility and grid-connected equipment
  • Identify compliance gaps and provide technical guidance to customers on corrective actions
  • Prepare technical documentation, engineering reports, and certification deliverables
  • Assist in developing new laboratory testing capabilities and expanding certification offerings
  • Mentor junior engineers and support technical training initiatives
  • Participate in standards development activities and monitor upcoming regulatory changes
  • Conduct audits at customer sites and engineering facilities
  • Travel to customer locations, manufacturing facilities, and substations as required

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline
  • Strong understanding of electrical power systems, industrial equipment, and compliance testing
  • Experience interpreting and applying industry standards and technical specifications
  • Knowledge of electrical testing methodologies, equipment evaluation, and certification processes
  • Ability to conduct technical reviews, inspections, and engineering assessments
  • Strong communication and customer-facing skills
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders, customers, and engineering teams

Preferred

  • Experience with utility, substation, power distribution, or grid-connected equipment
  • Familiarity with standards such as IEEE, UL, ANSI, CSA, IEC, and NFPA requirements
  • Experience with switchgear, switchboards, motor control systems, or other industrial electrical equipment
  • Exposure to short-circuit studies, temperature rise testing, insulation coordination, and grounding and bonding requirements
  • Background working with utilities, EPC firms, OEMs, testing laboratories, or certification organizations
  • Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) certification
  • Previous project leadership, mentoring, or customer-facing technical experience
