Business Development Manager - Air & Ocean Freight

I am currently recruiting for a BDM for my client, a global logistics and warehousing company specializing in supply chain solutions for a diverse range of industries, including commodities, metals, and general cargo. Our Toronto office is expanding, and we are seeking a skilled Business Development Manager to drive growth across our air and ocean freight services.
Position Overview
The Business Development Manager will be responsible for identifying new business opportunities, managing strategic customer relationships, and driving revenue growth across air and ocean freight verticals. This role requires strong industry knowledge, proven sales capability, and an existing understanding of general cargo or metal logistics.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute a strategic business development plan to grow Access World's air and ocean freight portfolio in Canada.
- Identify, target, and secure new customers within key industries, including general cargo and metals.
- Build and maintain long-term relationships with shippers, importers/exporters, carriers, and supply chain partners.
- Conduct customer needs assessments and propose tailored air and ocean freight solutions.
- Negotiate pricing, service agreements, and contract terms while ensuring profitability and service quality.
- Collaborate with internal operational teams to ensure seamless onboarding and high service standards for clients.
- Monitor industry trends, market conditions, and competitor activity to identify growth opportunities.
- Prepare sales forecasts, pipelines, and performance reports for management.
- Attend industry conferences, trade shows, and networking events to enhance brand visibility.
Qualifications & Experience
- 4-7 years of experience in business development, sales, or account management within air and ocean freight.
- Proven success in generating new business and managing customer accounts in the logistics or freight forwarding industry.
- Experience handling general cargo or metals is strongly preferred.
- Strong understanding of international freight transportation, Incoterms, pricing structures, and logistics operations.
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and presentation skills.
- Self-motivated with strong business acumen and the ability to work independently.
- Proficiency in CRM tools and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to travel locally and internationally as required.
