Contract Portfolio Director Surgery

The Portfolio Director of Surgery Service Line is responsible for maintaining knowledge of the portfolio and communicating the benefits and value of that portfolio to both internal and external audiences. The portfolio managed may include, significant spend categories that are sole or dual source and require conversion activity or extensive implementation and management, or mostly categories greater than $25m in spend, or categories that are highly sensitive to members (e.g. operationally sensitive), or categories that are complex, requiring detailed explanation of features and benefits, and how products compare between suppliers. The Surgery Portfolio Director must have an in-depth knowledge of surgical /nursing contracts, suppliers, and products in their portfolio.

What you will do in this role includes:

  • Communicate contract portfolio benefits and value to account management team, Advisory Boards and Supply Chain Board, Current/prospective members (materials management, end-users, senior leaders), Suppliers (national acct manager and sales executives), and Senior Leadership and/or Equity Board.
  • Manage, maintain and improve the performance of the contract portfolio, both operationally and financially. Portfolio includes critical and highly committed sourcing types that require extensive implementation and/or conversions.
  • Construct and manage simple contract amendments with supplier.
  • Address product additions, deletions and changes during contract term.
  • Be the liaison between sourcing, account management, and customer service.
  • Understand supplier new product offerings and collaborate with advisory board lead and business unit leader to assess products.
  • Develop contract launch materials and ensure all contract materials are maintained accurately in systems.
  • Oversee contract implementation with supplier and communication of contract implementation to account management.
  • Provide exceptional customer service to internal and external customers. Including but not limited to resolving customer issues (pricing, locs, product complaints, etc.).
  • Oversee product recall communication
  • Assist account management with members (materials mgmt., end-users, and senior executives).
  • Develop strategies and tactics to promote contract portfolio through Marketing/promotional opportunities, Contract Launch / Contract Lunch-and-Learns, Newsletters, bulletins, and other communication tactics.
  • Recognize additional cost saving opportunities or new product category coverage opportunities and elevate opportunities to department leader.
  • Assess market and supplier dynamics to determine possible sourcing strategies for contract renewals. Collaborate with the contract negotiator on strategy development as the contract bid cycle begins.
  • Manage and maintain vendor relationships.
  • Strategically fosters excellent working relationships with strategic suppliers that may cross business units

Requirements: 

  • Bachelor's degree REQUIRED
  • Active Clinical license REQUIRED
  • 5 to 7 years of related experience to include: contract/portfolio management, overseeing supplier relationships, account management of a client where duties include implementation or support related to a contract portfolio.
  • Engage with advisory board in clinical discussions and decisions
  • Engage with sourcing leads on clinical categorization and cross referencing related to products
  • Serve as subject matter expert for various surgical products and utilization
