Summary

A leading chemical company is seeking an Instrumentation Engineer, DCS (Distributed Control System). The Instrumentation Engineer, DCS ensures that all plant instrumentation and computer/electrical systems operate reliably and efficiently, while adhering to safety and design standards. This role is essential in developing and implementing preventive and predictive maintenance procedures and achieving internal and external reliability goals. The engineer will manage multiple projects involving new instrumentation and electrical systems or upgrades to existing equipment. Collaboration with plant management, corporate engineering, and maintenance teams is key.

Essential Functions

  • Perform instrumentation engineering tasks in a manufacturing environment, including:
    • Process debottlenecking and hazard analysis
    • Design, development, and maintenance of distributed control systems (DCS)
    • Creation and maintenance of instrument diagrams, piping layouts, and control loops
    • Development and optimization of control systems for new and existing processes
    • Automation of plant operations through control systems
    • Development and modification of PLC and HMI applications
    • Troubleshooting and resolution of instrumentation malfunctions
    • Preparation of documentation for equipment purchases, including:
      • Specifications
      • Operating procedures
      • Budget estimates and cost analysis
    • Participation in commissioning of new or upgraded facilities
    • Design and execution of field tests for new instrumentation and control processes
    • Training of end users on new or modified systems
    • Updating of operating manuals and startup procedures
    • Other duties as assigned

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering
  • Minimum 5 years of direct experience in manufacturing plant instrumentation, including:
    • Instrument calibration and troubleshooting
    • Familiarity with equipment such as reactors, analyzers, pumps, heat exchangers, dryers, bag filters, conveyors, emissions monitoring systems, blowers, and fans
  • Experience with Siemens PCS7 or similar DCS platforms
  • At least 5 years of experience developing new process controls
  • Strong focus on safety and regulatory compliance
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Project, Visio, PowerPoint)

Preferred Education and Experience

  • 5+ years of experience in a continuous manufacturing environment
  • Experience in industries involving high-temperature or chemical processes
