Overview:
A leading semiconductor manufacturer is seeking a hands-on, results-driven Operations Manager to lead and optimize its plating operations. This is a critical, multi-functional leadership role focused on improving capacity, cycle times, staffing, and inventory flow in a vertically integrated production environment.
Core Responsibilities:
Operational Leadership & Communication
Lead daily production meetings specific to plating operations
Coordinate downtime, maintenance, and factory-wide schedules to ensure minimal disruption
Act as a central communication point between plating, planning, and upstream/downstream production teams
Communicate factory-wide demand to plating team and align resources accordingly
Forecasting & Capacity Planning
Analyze short- and long-term volume forecasts to adjust staffing across shifts
Ensure equipment and workforce planning aligns with projected business needs
Work closely with shift supervisors to prioritize critical customer and engineering jobs
Team & Workflow Management
Oversee a team including shift supervisors and logistics/operations staff
Monitor and drive daily WIP (Work In Progress) movement and performance against goals
Fill in as needed to cover staffing gaps and support key operations
Provide leadership during peak production periods (e.g., end-of-quarter)
Performance Metrics & Continuous Improvement
Define and track key performance indicators (KPIs) such as throughput, cycle time, machine utilization, and cost per process
Publish and review metrics on a daily/weekly basis to support decision-making and resource allocation
Champion process improvements using industry-standard methodologies (Lean, Six Sigma, 5S, Kaizen, etc.)
Cost & Efficiency
Develop and manage a comprehensive cost model for the plating department
Leverage data to identify inefficiencies and recommend improvements
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Operations, Business, or related field
8+ years of experience in high-tech or advanced manufacturing environments
Background in both new product introduction and high-volume production settings
Familiarity with ERP systems and operational reporting
Proven leadership skills in building and managing high-performing teams
Experience applying continuous improvement tools and methodologies: SPC, Lean, Six Sigma, Kaizen, 8D, etc.
