OPEX Lead / Engineer

Position Summary
The OpEx Lead is responsible for driving continuous improvement on assigned lines. This includes developing operator skills, strengthening standard work, coordinating maintenance priorities, and improving overall safety, quality, and production performance. Using Lean and operational excellence practices, this role focuses on reducing waste, enhancing process reliability, and supporting consistent, high‑quality output in a corrugated manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

  • Promote a strong safety culture and build crew accountability for safe behaviors.
  • Track and improve line performance, including quality, efficiency, and operating routines.
  • Lead and motivate the crew, ensuring clear roles, expectations, and engagement in problem solving.
  • Analyze major losses, identify root causes, and implement improvement actions.
  • Create, update, and maintain consistent Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Investigate quality deviations and follow through on corrective actions.
  • Support safety‑related corrective action items.
  • Oversee onboarding and skill development for all operators on the line.
  • Review and prioritize maintenance requests, participate in planning, and support reliability efforts.
  • Lead scheduled maintenance shutdowns and ensure key reliability tasks are completed.
  • Use performance data to guide decision‑making and track improvements.
  • Hold daily production meetings, communicate progress, and set targets.
  • Maintain documentation on performance metrics, improvements, and Lean compliance.
  • Work closely with production, maintenance, and quality teams to align improvement efforts.

Qualifications

  • Engineering degree preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in corrugated converting or similar manufacturing.
  • Experience with root‑cause problem solving and process improvement methods.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in high volume manufacturing operations.
  • Solid planning, organization, and problem-solving capabilities.
